- 1 box yellow or white cake mix,
or use
your favorite yellow or white cake recipe.
- 1 quart fresh blueberries
- 1 to 1-1/2 quarts fresh strawberries
- 3 cups whipping cream
- 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
- A large container of whipped
topping such as Cool Whip® or Cool Whip® Light can be used instead of making a real whipped cream topping with whipping cream and confectioner's sugar.
Preparation -
Bake the cake in a greased and floured
9" x 13" inch cake pan. Remove from the oven
and cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Carefully remove the cake from the pan to a serving plate or board. Cool completely.
Whip the cream hard and add with the
confectioner's sugar to make a real whipped cream topping. Or... use
Cool Whip® instead. Spread the topping evenly
over the top and sides of cake, saving some
for decorating.
To Decorate - In the upper left hand corner,
arrange the blueberries for the blue part of an American flag.
Cut the strawberries in half lengthwise. Arrange
rows of strawberries for the red stripes. Fill a pastry bag with
whipped topping. Add rows of white stars to the
blueberry covered area. Use any remaining topping
to build up and define the white rows between the red rows of strawberries.
Refrigerate until ready to serve.
