Before You Raid Vani'rs Fjord It would Be wize to understand what it is You are Raiding..... the steading is a walled village....the Great Hall is a building and that is usually where The people will be..... there is a roof and solid walls, the doors are regular sized so Bringing Your Tarn or Kailla inside is not going to happen ....if it does then It will be Killed either with Multiple arrows.... or spears and Great axes..... all which are more than capable of dispatching a beast in the confines of the great hall...
~~Raiding~~
1.) As a general rule... but not a binding rule... numbers should match within reason during attacks.
2.) As a general rule... only Members or petitioning Members should take an active part in attacking or defending unless hired as Mercenaries to help with the numbers. Vanir's Fjord will not engage non-Members unless they engaged By them and it is obvious that they are there to defend.
3.) In regards to FW fighting... Vanir's Fjord will acknowledge any FW as a combatant so long as her Ubar acknowledges Her as such.
4.) Not all FW engage in combat. watch their posts when under attack to see which arm themselves and which take cover. no noncombatants will be harmed. Vanir's Fjord will not initiate attacks on FW. They will deal only with FW who first attack. NO PREGNANT FW WILL EVER ENGAGE IN BATTLE. Any FW attacking tarns, kailla, ships (whatever means brought the Raiders) will be considered to have "engaged" in battle, and are now a target.
5.) Unless prior arrangements are made and agreed upon... prisoners are not taken. this includes kajirae... FW... and Warriors/Rarii. See Capture Rules for procedures....
6.) "missile/projectile" weapons are kept to a minimum. arrows, quivas, lances, throwing axes, etc etc etc may be used at the onslaught and during withdrawal within reason. close quarters combat... "the dance"... is what is greatly appreciated most of all. though such weapons may be used during the actual combat so long as not done excessively and must be done realistically. remember... when in the confusion of close quarters combat... it is most likely possible you may hit Your own people if looked upon realistically.
7.) entry posts of attackers should be used to describe their carried weapons... their protection... and their method of attack ie: tarn, kailla, afoot, etc. this is easily done by inserting such in the entry block on entry pages. this serves two purposes; first to allow a post for the defenders to react to the attack... and secondly to avoid weapons appearing from thin air. if you do not have it in Your entry post... you left it at home. defenders need only post the weapons they are using at the time upon their person, or will post they are arming from wherever they keep their weapons. aye... this gives the defenders an small advantage... but even this small advantage is a given considering they are on their home grounds so to speak and can... if they are able... use whatever weapons are available to them at home. just remember to post the taking up of arms unless you normally have such weapons on thy person. examples... FW may be expected to have quivas/daggers frying Pans etc... or in extremely rare instances they may have a bow and arrows if they were engaging in the use of such at the time of attack. (possible but not probable. *W*) as Warriors are nearly always armed with at least quivas, their sidearm(s), etc etc etc they need only draw them and swing into action.
8.) All combatants should wear their homestone's initials or Name for identification with the exception of the Ubars as they are already most likely easily identifiable. Also, We cannot see the names of people who write their names on their avs and use a "dot" or write their names in black (which doesn't show up on the screen). Please ensure ALL combatants have a name that appears as the same on the dropdown list and the screen.
9.) It is understood that during the confusion of battle... posts will unavoidably be missed from time to time. however we do try and acknowledge or defend against blows bearing in mind what may be realistically possible. react to it if even if it was not possible.....rather than ignore it minumize it and continue...
10.) It is also understood that during the confusion of battle it is easy to lose track of posts. however we try our best to alternate posts allowing the other to be able to reasonably defend and counter. this is especially necessary when facing multiple opponents. do not pile on the posts and bury an opponent.
11.) Although We all make mistakes and tend to become overly bloodthirsty in the heat of battle... try and remember not to post for Your opponent. Your opponent will post His own (Her own) reactions to blows.
12.) When the order to withdraw is given... immediately recall Your defending forces and allow the attackers to withdraw. this is when "missile/projectile" weapons are permitted at will simply to add color and realism.
POINTS TO BEAR IN MIND:
no killing or disabling blows are struck during raids.
kajirae may amuse themselves by tossing rotten vulo eggs or fruit during a raid. if you have time... acknowledge such. if not just dismiss it as impishness and carry on. *G* however slaves will not engage physically (ie: tripping or shoving. This puts them too close to weapons and we don't want them accidently hurt)
kajirae are not Attacked during raids.
posts should be kept as short as possible to maintain the flow of battle.
be realistic in your posts.
camps empty of Warriors are not looked upon as targets. at least one Warrior of good ranking must be present as example. this means a rank higher than Warrior or GateKeeper. this applies to all camps taking part in raids. FW who are acknowledged as Warriors by their Ubar are to be considered a Warrior and their rank may be used to determine if attack is to be considered. examples would be Aaminah in Tetro or NightStorm in the Lair. as camp second provided there are combatants of lesser rank present. Unless Notified in advance visiting Rarii are not expected to engage in combat…and are not counted when looking at the odds.
using no pics helps the room function faster it seems... but I will not restrict pics during raids. this is also seemingly true with excessive html coding.
keep in mind these are "friendly" combats and none should take offense should mistakes or accidents occur.
until we all are fluent in this style of warfare... advance notice of impending raids will be given in some form which may be determined by individual Ubar agreements prior to the raid. eventually... no warning at all will be given.
stopping in the middle of battle to say "Hey, you can't do that, it's impossible" is sort of silly. Don't critique your opponent, it makes you look amateurish and means you have stopped fighting, and they get a better shot. Treat it like a spar, and deal with it and keep going. Later on after the raid, we can discuss what happened and correct it, to make for better raids in the future.
NOTE: Scouts are not to be engaged. VF sends Lady Nyx to scout first. This is not to spy or to see when you are weakest, only to clarify there ARE Rarius there, and in some camps it's hard to tell the sex of the Free from simply their name (ie: Dark Ravyn, Sudden Storm or someone who has a "culture" name like the Yellow Knives). Also to ensure everyone in the camp is not "ghosting", or there is not something important going on that we shouldn't disrupt.
The first thing the Scout should do is PM the Ubar and identify themselves. This of course will change later when no warning of Raids are given. Others can ignore the Scout. Only send ONE Scout as we have seen a Raid where there were enough "Scouts" to fill the room so no warriors could get in.
That said, just because the Scout is there, doesn't mean a Raid is imminent. But that's part of the fun, the anticipation.....
~~Captures~~
Capture Rules for Vanir’s Fjord One of the ways non-fighting Free Women and slaves can get in on the “action” of a raid, is to be captured. It’s Gorean, and adds excitement. Here are the Vanir’s Fjord capture rules.
Note:....please take atleast three posts to capture some on and not post a single "grabs the Woman/slave and runs".....give them a chance to react and a chance for the Rairius to defend
1. Rarius are stronger than females. Capture can be delayed, but cannot be avoided unless a Rarius steps in and fights for Y/you. Make it realistic. Y/you cannot “leave” or x out during a capture. (in the event of computer problems, at the earliest possible time, let someone KNOW what happened, and you are considered captured anyway)
2. No FW or slaves that are captured are to be branded.
3. Captives are to be taken back to the Raider’s home camp, and held for ransom or rescue.
4. Captured slaves must be treated as their silk designation dictates. Furring a white silk or restricted red is OUT. Ask the girl, she will tell you her status. Also, no captured slave is to be re-collared. The slave is not there for good, only until randsom is paid, or she is rescued.
5. Captured Free Women are NOT to be collared, enslaved or treated in public in ANY way that will compromise Their reputation. What is done in PM is between the Captive and the One Who captured Her. Ask Her limitations in PM. Remember this is in fun, and a shamed FW is not having fun.
6. Any C/captives can be made to serve, do chores, be caged, bound, gagged or disciplined as warranted. Keep in mind that some FW do not regularly practice serving, and may make mistakes. Some have enough imagination to make a pretty funny serve. Let Them be creative and You may be highly amused.
7. Once the randsom is paid, the C/captives will be released to a Rarius of T/their homestone to be escorted home.
8. If the C/captives are to be “rescued” make it realistic. You can’t grab the F/female if S/she is chained or caged. It is up to the C/captive to inform in PM to the “Rescue party” of where S/she is, and H/her state. Also, the Ones who captured the F/female have to make it realistic. She can’t be “dangling from one ankle froma rope 5000 feet above a cliff upside down.”...etc.
9. Captured F/females MUST go to the homestone of the Rarius Who captured Y/you, and honor the capture. There is no “escape” as all camps have sentries, sleen and other nasty stuff just waiting for you to try. You stay at that camp until ransomed or rescued.
Check with the Jarl/Ubar previous to a Raid to ensure that the F/females present are capturable.....there may be some that do not wish to join, or there may be a visiting one who isn’t allowed to be captured.
