Millenium - Was It Worth The Wait?

Well it’s been a long wait, but it finally arrived. I don’t no about all of you but I sure had high expectations for this album. Which is reasonable considering it’s been almost two years since ‘Backstreets Back’ was released here, and it’s a year and a half since they released ‘All I Have To Give’ which was their last single here (I didn’t count ‘I’ll Never Break Your Heart’ on account of the fact that it totally sux). And I have to say that when I eventually got it (It came out three weeks later than the original release date) I was sorely disappointed. I was expecting a more mature album - was ‘You Wrote The Book On Love’ more mature, or was it the synthesisers in ‘The One’. And the 'harder, edgier feel' was totally lost on me. Although I will admit after a couple of listens, it is starting to sound better. But I’ll remember not to get my hopes up as much for the next album

Am I the only one who didn’t go weak at the knees when they first heard this song? It sounds almost angry to me ‘All you people can’t you see can’t you see, how you loves affecting our reality.” That line especially sounds really angry, and the music is the harshest I’ve ever heard the boys use. I think this song is saying we do love you lots, but lay of the whole obsessive stalking, stealing our mail stuff. I also think AJ’s laugh at the start is his way of saying that he’s laughing at all the screaming teenyboppers.

You want it what way? First they want it that way, then they don’t. It’s all to confusing for me. I also don’t think it’s necessary for all the boys to have a solo on the one song, it makes it sound too cluttered. I love Nick’s little ‘don’t wanna hear you say hey yeah yeah.’ - So cute.

This song is so much deeper lyrically than anything I’ve heard from them before, and it’s written by Max Martin. I’m shocked. I loved the bass thing at the end. This is one of my favourite songs, and one of the only ones I liked when I first heard it.

‘Baby its the way you make me, kinda get me go crazy, never wanna stop.’ If anyone else sung this, I’d hate it. But it’s the BSB so I love it. It cracks me up, it’s the only thing I like about the song actually. ‘Its the way you Ooh Ooh, Kinda get me go Ooh Ooh”. I’m sorry but this is just pushing it a bit too far for me. Those Ooh Ooh’s are just too lame.

I don’t see how changing six words in a song suddenly makes it album-worthy, actually I think they wreaked it. Nick sings it way better live. Also, the electric guitars are a bit too much. I love the ‘It’s gotta be this, It’s gotta be this’ parts. A lot of people have been saying, typical Nick gets his solo song on the album. But when you think about it Brian had his on ‘Backstreets Back’ with ‘That’s What She Said’ and ‘10,000 Promises’ was also on that album. Granted Kevin didn’t sing it, but hey what can you do. And ‘My Heart Stays With You’ was on the ‘I Want It That Way single (god knows why). The only one that hasn’t had his solo on an released is AJ. Gee what a shame, ‘Lay Down Beside Me’ is such a good song (note the sarcasm people). So leave poor Nickay alone.

Love this song, it’s so R&B, I love it. ‘You hit me faster than a shark attack’?. This is the most idiotic line ever, I’m sure there are other words that rhyme with back. For example - Rack, Hack, Slack, Lack, Jack, Mack, Plaque, and my personal favourite Frack. My point is that this line sucked, and it was totally unnecessary, but ‘All the hundred, no thousand lies.’ makes up for it. Why is it that Nick has to sing every thing that has to do with sex. I can just see all the little girls screaming like crazy for that line. It’s funny really if you listen to it. The other guys are singing the rest of the line with him, but they leave the ‘sex-u-a-ity’ all up to Nick - How considerate.

Someone’s given Nick singing lessons for this song, coz damn does that boy sounds good. Hmmm... Can we say ‘As Long As You Love Me’? Listen to the start of the second verse, it’s scary how much they sound the same. I don’t have all that much to say about this song except that it’s one of my favourites.

This song is so Euro-Pop, Radio-Friendly, Made-In-Sweden that I find it difficult to listen to. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to the whole song...Don’t think I want to.

I hate to say it, but Kevin can write a damn good song, this is my favourite on the whole album. ‘Its not that I can’t live without you. It’s just that I don’t even want to try.’ It’s not the over-dramatic ‘I’d die without you’ kinda crap, this is my favourite line. I also love ‘If I wasn’t such a fool, right now I’d be holding you.’ Further proof of Nickay’s singing lessons. All the guys sound beautiful and I think this should be the next single, it won’t be, but hey I can Dream.

When I heard there was going to be a song on the album called ‘Spanish Eyes’ I just knew Howie would have to sing it. I think this was a cruel joke on Howie, but he’d never notice, he’s to busy revelling in the joy of having a solo. Nick should never sing in a deeper voice than I’m used to, it scares me. Overall this song sux ass.

Oh look, another slow song with no point except to fill in space - this song also sux.

I didn’t reach for the tissues when I first heard this song, I reached for the ant-acid. This song makes me gag. I can’t stand it.

Lucky us - we got two bonus track at the end of the CD. One of which was on the ‘I Want It That Way’ single, and the other... Oh god, what can I say.

Gosh, what a surprise, yet another slow song, and yes once again it bites.

I can’t even express how lame this song is. The words pretty much speak for them selves. ‘When I first met you my life turned a page, chapter one was how true love is made, you taught me with your kiss...’ Oh god, I can’t go on, this song is worse than the ‘All I have To Give (Conversation Mix)’ (I know, I didn’t think it was possible either).
