You follow D'shen to the other room. When you get behind him and look over his shoulder, you realize he's watching a tunnelsnake. You look at D'shen and notice he's got a very loving look on his face. Shards! But D'shen is certainly an oddling! You look over to the tunnelsnake, nibbling on some fruit.
The tunnelsnake runs over, peice of fruit in its hand, and climbs up and onto D'shen's shoulder. It eyes you suspiously, but turns away and continues to nibble on the fruit.
"That tickles," D'shen turns around to face you and smiles. When he speaks, in whispers, so not to disturb the tunnelsnake, "Sorry for running off like that. I just heard some rather suspious scurrying in here. Eulay won't admit it, but I think he has a girlfriend. Or invites his family over for parties. One or the other."
You just stare at the boy. You can't believe this conversation is taking place!
"You'd better be careful, or you'll have the tunnelsnakes taking over."
"No, no, not so. Arrilynn and her two firelizards make sure of THAT, and the rest of the Weyrbowl tries to be rid of what they call pests."
You don't even bother to go further into the conversation. D'shen sounds regretful of those standings. You don't want to end up hurting his feelings. Instead, you look around the room. Apparently, this is more of a living quarters.
D'shen's bed, clothes, and other neccissities is in a corner of the room. Onto another side is paints and various things he must have collected. You smile, Arrilynn was right when she said he hoarded things. D'shen had a lot of uneccissary clutter, but it was organized.
"OW!" you jump when you hear Dashen's yelp, "Do you always know when the numbweed begins to fade? Would you please try to keep away from my injuries!" You notice D'shen's again crattling his bruised wrist and he's addressed the tan tunnelsnake, who chitters back at the boy, then rushes under the bed.
D'shen turns to you, "I really must go back to work. Thanks for visiting, it was terrific!"
You smile and answer properly then leave the boy, wishing him luck on his impression.
