Pianist Leon Fleisher Gives American Premiere of Long-Lost Hindemith Concerto for Left Hand

Pianist Leon Fleisher joins the San Francisco
Symphony tonight [5 OCT 2005] for the American
premiere of Paul Hindemith's Piano Music with
Orchestra. Fleisher remains the world's leading
performer of piano music for the left hand.
He gave the world premiere of the long-lost work
in December 2004 with the Berlin Philharmonic.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to stage Mahler premiere

A performance of the New Edition of Mahler's Second Symphony is to take place in on 18th October 2005 at London's Royal Albert Hall. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the work conducted by Gilbert Kaplan, featuring soloists soprano Sally Matthews, mezzo soprano Karen Cargill, and a 450-voice combined chorus of the Philharmonia Chorus, Brighton Festival Chorus, Crouch End Festival Chorus and Southend Festival Chorus.

an ambitious new opera which is critical of the
US invasion of Iraq. "Waiting for the

Little Known Mozart Opera to Receive its World Premiere at North Yorkshire Pub in September

Titled Bastien und Bastienna, the opera was composed by
Mozart at the age of twelve and marks the
composer's third foray into the form. It was
first performed in Vienna in the fall of 1768.
Audiences will have a chance to judge the
quality of the work for themselves when the it
plays at The Narrow Boat in Skipton on September 18.

New work from leading US female composer involves 65 orchestras

Andre Previn has completed a new work commissioned by the Sacramento Philharmonic, the orchestra announced.

The work, titled Night Thoughts, was commissioned in
honor of Sacramento-based artist Wayne
Thiebaud. It was originally scheduled to
premiere in April 2005, but in February, Previn
told the orchestra that the work would not be
finished in time. At the time, the composer and
conductor said that he would provide a new
estimated delivery date sometime this summer.
