Locally, Mozart will be the man of the moment from area concert halls to the airwaves in coming months. Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, WFMT (98.7 FM) has scheduled the music of Mozart virtually round-the-clock to mark the 250th anniversary of his birth in Salzburg, Austria, on Jan. 27, 1756.

Recently, Andy Thomas conducted the premier of ?Crane by the River Li? for orchestra of traditional Chinese instruments in Nanning China. April 2005, Simon Boyar premiered "Valse Triste," a marimba work which he commissioned from Dr. Thomas. This new solo piece is evidence that music for the marimba is evolving and that Thomas' marimba music pieces are its milestones. .
