Lakeshore Records will release the original motion picture soundtrack for BE KIND REWIND. The album features classic Fats Waller cuts performed by the film's star Mos Def, writer/director Michel Gondry and composer Jean-Michel Bernard, plus classic tracks by Booker T and the MGs, Fats Waller, Billy Preston, original music by Bernard, and a performance by Jack Black. The soundtrack will be available on iTunes and in stores on January 22, 2008.
Jerry (Jack Black) is a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant that he believes is melting his brain. But when his plan goes awry, the magnetic field that he creates accidentally erases all of the videotapes in a local video store where his best friend Mike (Mos Def) works. Fearing that the mishap will cost Mike his job, the two friends team up to keep the store's only loyal customer (Mia Farrow) - a little old lady with a tenuous grasp on reality - from realizing what has happened by recreating and re-filming every movie that she decides to rent. From "Ghostbusters," to "Robocop," to "Rush Hour," to "The Lion King," Jerry and Mike become the biggest stars in their neighborhood by starring in the biggest movies ever made. French composer Jean-Michel Bernard was trained as a classical pianist, performing with the London Philharmonic and in jazz clubs in Paris and Bordeaux. After a stint as the musical director and conductor for a popular French political radio show he began composing for film, television and commercials. He collaborated with Claude Bolling, Lalo Schifrin and Ennio Morricone. From 1999 to 2003 he worked with Ray Charles on several International and European tours. He first worked with Michel Gondry on the film HUMAN NATURE, composing two songs, and in 2006 composed the score for Gondry's film THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP, which earned him the Best Score Award at Cannes.

Emmy® Award winning composer Geoff Zanelli (DISTURBIA, INTO THE WEST) wrote the original music for the film. Geoff Zanelli attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music. In 1994 he met Academy Award-winning film composer Hans Zimmer and joined Zimmer's studio team. This experience led to working with composer John Powell on his first Hollywood feature, FACE/OFF, directed by John Woo. Critically acclaimed composer, Osvaldo Golijov has joined forces with one of the world's most talented directors, Francis Ford Coppola to create a mesmerizing and captivating score to the film, Youth Without Youth which is releasing on Deutsche Grammophon on December 11th. The score was recorded in Bucharest by the Bucharest Metropolitan Orchestra, young and enthusiastic musicians, conducted by Radu Popa. Francis Ford Coppola and Osvaldo Golijov were present during the entire recording phase, and Deutsche Grammophon has also included a 10-minute documentary on the soundtrack recording that will be available on DVD and included in the press kit. It conveys, directly and emotionally, the uniqueness and beauty of this project.

With one note - a touch to a typewriter - the music becomes part of the story being told from the first moment of the film. Dario Marianelli's indelible theme follows the characters through their journeys across decades, with Jean-Yves Thibaudet's solo piano performances also framing their fates. Born in Pisa, Italy, Dario Marianelli studied in Florence and later moved to London to continue his studies and set up his current base. His scholarships led him to London's esteemed Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Bretton University College (in Germany), and the National Film and Television School, where he spent three years. His composition work was featured in television shows and stage productions, leading him to work with The BBC Symphony Orchestra as well as The Royal Shakespeare Company. Marianelli's film score compositions include The Brave One, V for Vendetta, and Pride & Prejudice, for which he received an Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score. Jean-Yves Thibaudet has been described as "brilliant" by The New York Times, and rightfully so. At age 5, he began his music studies in France. At 12, he would join the Paris Conservatory, going on to win the Premier Prix du Conservatoire at age 15. Three years later, he won the Young Concert Artists Adution in New York City. He was honored with the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the Republic of France in 2001; and the Premio Pegasus at the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina in 2003.
