Ewan McGregor was born March 31, 1971 in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland.He had always wanted to follow in the footsteps of his uncle, actor Denis Lawson (who played Wedge Antilles in the original Star Wars Trilogy). At the age of 16, McGregor would leave home to join the Perth Repertory Theater in Scotland but soon moved on the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England.

In 1993, McGregor got his first movie roles, in an English television movie, Lipstick on your Collar. His first feaure film Being Human, in which Ewan had only one line, was a flop.

McGregor went back to his homeland to appear in the dark comedy Shallow Grave, which necame a huge cult hit. This success paved the way for Ewan's next film, Trainspotting, which was a mcuh bigger hit. Next, McGregor appeared in Emma. Meanwhile, Ewan had married a French production designer, Eve Mouvrakis. Their child Clara was born a year later.

McGregor returned to the UK to act in Brassed Off, The Pillow Book, and A Life Life Ordinary. He then appeared in some smaller indie films, Nightwatch and Little Voice.

McGregor then shocked the world again by appearing in such a big budget film as Star Wars: The Phantom Menace as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi. Despite poor reviews for the film, fans agreed that McGregor was the best part of the movie.
