Guntur was once regarded as the seat of politics in Andhra Pradesh.It is said that what happens in Guntur politics today will happen tomorrow in Hyderabad. The Congress & the TDP are very active in Guntur.The BJP is slowly picking up speed,but has yet to make an impact in Electoral politics in Guntur.The NTR TDP has virtually disappeared from the scene.
Elections to the Lok Sabha are scheduled in September.The Cong(I) is fielding the sitting M.P, Mr.R.Sambasiva Rao,whose chances of winning are considered good.The TDP has not yet decided on a candidate.The names of Mr.Y.V.Rao,(Best India Tobacco),Mr.J.Narendranath(Secy.,J.K.C.College) & Mrs.V.Vijayalakshmi(Member,Consumer Forum) are doing the rounds.
The Assembly Elections are scheduled to be held in December.The TDP is considered to have good chances of winning,provided the sitting M.L.As are replaced.
