Winter 1998
In the current issue of Filmmaker magazine, Harmony's name is dropped, along with other filmmakers, for "uncovering pockets of small-town Americana rarely visited on the big screen..." Kasi Lemmon's Eve's Bayou, Billy Bob Thornton's Sling Blade [Harm calls that one a romanticized Flannery O'Connor piece], Bart Freundlich's The Myth Of Fingerprints, and Tim Blake Nelson's Eye Of God were also mentioned on the same note of rural, offbeat, dangerous, strange, and heretofore unseen locations.

September 1998
The same photo, only considerably larger, of Harmony backstage with A Tribe Called Quest, is featured in the current issue of Teen People (shut up), with our gluvable Dawson on the cover.

August 1998
Small photograph of Harmony with Michael Rapaport and Leonardo DiCaprio hanging out backstage with A Tribe Called Quest in the August issue of Rolling Stone, with The Beastie Boys on the cover. Other articles in this issue: Lucinda Williams, The Artist, and a particularly moving piece entitled "To Be Young And Gay: A Special Report."

July 1998
Chloë Sevigny, Harmony's girlfriend, is quoted saying (not really) this of Harmony: "Call me pathetic. It's not degrading. In fact, it's prophetic. Look who I'm dating." Jennifer Lopez then pipes up saying: "Listen up, girlfriend. You're some kind of looney, 'cause that Harmony character ain't no George Clooney!"

New York's ultra-hip gathered inside one of the enormous bases of the Brooklyn Bridge Tuesday night as the annual "Creative Time In The Anchorage" series opened with a film event called "Ret-Dot-Inevitable." Harmony showcased a new experimental film while Iceland's Gus Gus provided the music.

A funny piece on Leonardo DiCaprio earns Harmony another name drop in New York magazine. It seems the Leonardo DiCaprio backlash is already beginning. Supposedly DiCaprio and the rest of his friends [Korine, Lukas Haas, Jay Ferguson, and Tobey Maguire] are known around Hollywood as "The Pussy Posse." The "posse" are getting a bad wrap for setting off bombs, tossing grapes out of a hotel window at the Paparazzi, and badgering Showgirls and Saved By The Bell star Elizabeth Berkley to go out with the boys. When Ferguson wouldn't take no for an answer, Berkley reportedly had to bring her boyfriend, Roger Wilson, into the situation. Wilson confronted the boys at a Los Angeles restaurant where Wilson took Ferguson outside after finding out that he had done the badgering, and Wilson was struck at. Police are "investigating" the incident.

Spring 1998
Very nice interview with Harmony in the Spring issue of Mean magazine with Andy Kaufman on the cover. Interviewed by the infamous Mike Watt, Harmony speaks of his newest film, Gummo, Milton Berle's 'schlong,' throwing his sister out of a window, Martin Scorsese, Andy Kaufman, and Slick Rick. Other interviews featured in this magazine are Atari Teenage Riot, Brittany Andrews, and the premiere issue of MILF: Mothers I'd Like To Fuck.

22 May, 1998
I read this in an Allstar magazine article: "Harmony Korine, writer of Kids and writer / director of Gummo, will be showing The Diary Of Anne Frank Part II." This experimental film premiered in Brooklyn and featured three screens depicting a mentally handicapped man in a diaper, the burying of dead dogs, and graphic scenes involving penknives. Vincent Gallo [Buffalo '66], Todd Haynes [The Velvet Goldmine], and Sofia Coppola [The Virgin Suicides] were also in attendance as DJ's such as Moby provided the music.

8 April, 1998
Barnesandnoble.Com welcomed Harmony to talk to fans about his new novel, A Crackup At The Race Riots. The transcript will be up shortly.

3 April, 1998
Harmony appears on Dave Letterman yet again. Actor Tom Hanks and musician Scott Weiland will also be on.

20 March, 1998
Harmony Korine on David Letterman. Other guests include Gwyneth Paltrow & Wyclef Jean.

18 February, 1998
Harmony was last seen attending The Rotterdam Film Festival with Björk. Whereas I would just be happy eating a Danish for a delicious breakfast snack, Björk actually won a Danish Grammy.

January 1998
Harmony is titled "Pathetic Person For The Month Of January" at The Pathetic Person Of The Month Website.

1998
Harmony directs the Sonic Youth video, Sunday. "It was just funny watching them grow up and sort of become stars in this film," Thurston Moore said of seeing Harm & Chloe in Kids. "Then Harmony himself became really active as a creative person in a way, and then he did this film Gummo, which was just a completely tripped-out, psychedelic, sick sick film from last year that actually was pretty interesting." The video features Macaulay Culkin and his brand new wife, actress Rachel Miner. The video sometimes airs on MTV's 120 Minutes on Sunday evenings. Not that I would know...
