Night America Trembled

TV Land channel on 10-30-2000 @ 9pm EST
Narrated by Edward R. Murrow, this episode of Studio One reenacts that infamous October evening of Orson Welles' radio broadcast The War of the Worlds and its impact on the radio listeners. As the news reports of Martians landing in New Jersey are being read, we see several different scenarios unfold -- an elderly man living alone, a young babysitter in charge of a sleeping infant, a teenage couple heading off to elope and hearing the reports on the car radio, a fraternity house poker game -- and the listeners' slow panic as the broadcasts continue. We also watch how events unfold at the radio station, and the casts' total ignorance of the alarm they are creating amongst their listeners. As you watch this compelling one hour program, look carefully at the actors and see if you can spot Warren Beatty, Ed Asner, James Coburn, John Astin, Vincent Gardenia and others.
