As the news reports of Martians landing in New Jersey are being read, we see several different scenarios unfold -- an elderly man living alone, a young babysitter in charge of a sleeping infant, a teenage couple heading off to elope and hearing the reports on the car radio, a fraternity house poker game -- and the listeners' slow panic as the broadcasts continue. We also watch how events unfold at the radio station, and the casts' total ignorance of the alarm they are creating amongst their listeners.
