Impressions of a Girl: Culture Jam
Culture Jamming 101
No Logo states: The culture jammer is the activist artist as antimarketer, using a childhood filled with Trix commercialsm, and an adolescence spent spotting the product placement on Seinfeld, to mess with a system that once saw itself as a specialized science. Every ad campaign is a riddle just waiting for the right jam.

Your Voice
There are ways on the internet to speak up against particular issues. I think it's important to stand up for what you believe in so if any of these appeal to you, use your own computer to make a difference.
  • Save Harry - a campaign designed to help children. It is a protest against coca-cola's involvement with Harry Potter. It wants j.k. rowling to donate the royalities she is receiving from the huge sponser (said to be "liquid sugar" and bad for kids) to fund child nutrition campaigns.

  • Don't Click! - you can avoid supporting huge companies by not clicking on banners that appear on web sites you visit. The moment you click on one, you #1 just gave the company money #2 put a tag on your surfing which means the company monitors what sites you go to and then creates customized banners to lure you into clicking on them. The companies start creating a false desire for you. You'll see the banners so much you will begin to want the unfufillable product. So don't click!
    Power vs. Power
They Rule - a site unveiling the buddy-buddy system of the major corporate powers. A lot of big companies are connected one way or another and this site contains handy diagrams to see who is playing on both sides of the fence.
McSpotlight - a sight designed to inform people about the real workings behind the ronald mcdonald mask. It is very informative and includes other companies that need attention as well. After reading Fast Food Nation (eric schlosser, 2001) I have decided to boycott mcdonalds and after seeing this site, it makes me all the more confident that it's a crutial thing to do.
