Corn shucking parties were one way to get the corn shucked. The farmers would invite their neighbors to a corn shucking and after would have supper. The young people would play games after supper. It amounted to farmer helping farmer.
Pulling leaves off of the corn to feed the animals was called pulling fodder. The leaves were tied into bundles. Each bundle was called a hand. They were hung on the corn stacks to cure out. After curing, the hands were taken to the barn and stacked in the barn loft to feed the animals in the winter.
