Cotton was sowed in fields in rows. After the cotton came up, it would be to thick and had to be thinned. We took a hoe and thinned out the rows. This was called chopping cotton.
The Wyant house was built in 1912 by Robert Wyant, a young man about to be married. After building the house, his wife refused to live in Catawba county, therefore he moved to Lincoln county and gave the house to his sister Kate. She lived in the house until she died.
