On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. At Jaliapara, the Muslim settlers stopped every vehicle and looked for indigenous people. Senior government official Jyoti Ranjan Chakma was taken off a bus and severely beaten up.
Bangladesh army torture indigenous Marma Buddhists in Matiranga
On 21 July 1984, Muslim settlers in complicity with Bangladesh army secretly planted a gun near the house of Mr. Maungshai Marma (55) at Barbil in Matiranga, Khagrachari district. Mr. Marma is the Headman of Barbil Mouza. Then the army and the BDR personnel raided his house, "found" the gun, arrested him, beat him and sent him to jail.
