On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Bangladesh police torture inidigenous Chakma Buddhists in Mohalchari
On 19 September 1984, a group of 30 Armed Police of Bangladesh (APB) men from Rangapani Chara APB camp raided Khularam Para village in Mohalchari, Khagrachari district. APB arrested and tortured several indigenous people. The victims are:
Mr. Purna Kumar Chakma (50), son of Mr. Surendra Karbari. He was taken to the APB camp where he was tortured during the interrogation.
Mr. Surath Bihari Chakma (30). He was taken to the APB camp where he was tortured during the interrogation.
Mr. Shanti Ranjan Chakma (32). He was taken to the APB camp, tortured during the interrogation and beaten so severely that he had his left hand broken.
