On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.
Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.
Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Naniachar
On 20 November 1984, Bangladesh army of 305th Brigade from Thalchara Army Camp launched a military operation against the indigenous people of Jogonatuli village in Naniachar, Rangamati district. During the operation, Bangladesh army tortured indigenous people. The victims are:
Mr. Chitta Ranjan Chakma (40), son of Mr. Kamini Ranjan Chakma. BD army raided his home at 2:50 a.m. and beat him. While being beaten, he was chanting the name of the Buddha. But BD army shouted him down and asked him to utter the name of Allah. He is still under military (during preparation of this report) custody without charge or trial.
Mr. Amiya Chakma (25), son of Mr. Angshu Chakma, a tutor at the home of Mr. Chitta Ranjan Chakma (as above). BD army arrested him and took him to the Bakchari market. They poured hot water on him and put a hot boiled egg into his mouth.
