On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Bangladesh army torture and rob indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Naniachar
On 5 December 1984, Bangladesh army of 305th Brigade from Thal Chara Army Camp raided Chillonya Adam in Naniachar, Rangamati district. During the raid, Bangladesh army tortured and robbed indigenous people. The victims are:
Mr. Murati Mohan Chakma (36), son of Mr. Monindra Lal Chakma. BD army beat him in the knees with a heavy stick. His mother pleaded BD army to stop beating her son. She too was kicked to the ground until she became senseless.
Mr. Jagadish Chandra Chakma (39). BD army robbed cash Taka 2,500.00 and a Citizen wrist watch worth Taka 1300.00.
Mr. Bhim Joy Chakma (34). At 3 a.m. BD army arrested him at gun point, took him to the army camp and threw him into a pit. During interrogation he was severely beaten and hot water was poured in to is mouth.
