Bengali settlers grab indigenous Buddhist land in Longadu

On 31 December 1984, Muslim settlers with the backing of Bangladesh army forcibly occupied the farmland of Mr. Lushai Mohan Chakma (45), son of Mr. Ultamoni Chakma of Adorok Chara of Tintilla in Longadu, Rangamati district.

When he appealed to the Bangladesh army commander of the Korolya Chari Camp, he was flatly told that if indigenous people did not give lands to the Muslim settlers then no indigenous person would be allowed to plough their own lands. The BD army commander told Mr. Chakma that if necessary indigenous villages would be burnt down in the name of combing operation against the Shanti Bahini.

The Muslim settlers were identified as:

  1. Mohammad Abdur Rashid (Chairman of Union Council)
  2. Mohammad Jabbar (leader of the Muslim settler)
  3. Abdur Rob
  4. Shah Noor
  5. Ayatollah
  6. Hashmat Ali
  7. Nurul Amim

The Muslim settlers were backed by:

  1. Subedar Muslimuddin from Korolya Chari Army Camp
