On 20 April 2008 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked and burnt down 76 indigenous Buddhist houses in Sajek. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhist villagers and grab their land. The indigenous Chakma Buddhists and their burnt down houses after the attack.
Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Panchari
On 2 January 1985, Bangladesh army of 30th Bengal Regiment, BDR (BD Rifles), APB (Armed Police of BD) and Ansar (Islamic Guards) raided Macchua Chara village in Panchari, Khagrachari district. During the raid Bangladesh army and armed forces serverely beat indigenous Buddhist inhabitants. The victims are:
Mr. Sumati Ranjan Chakma (22), son of Mr. Jommua Chakma. Bangladesh army tied his legs and hands with ropes, made him lie on the ground and poured water through his nose and mouth. Bangladesh army took him to the army camp and tortured him every day. He is still under army custody without bail or trial.
Mr. Jyana Bikash Chakma (25), son of Mr. Doyamoy Chakma. Bangladesh army arrested him and took him blindfolded to the army camp. He was interrogated and tortured for one week.
Mr. Dedera Chakma (28), son of Mr. Thuda Chakma. Bangladesh army arrested him and took him blindfolded to the camp. During interrogation Bangladesh army tortured and beat him. BD army tied his hands and legs with nylon ropes and extinguished burning cigarette on private parts of his body.
