On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. One of the Buddhist temples burnt down by the settlers.
Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Baghaichari
On 30 April 1985, Bangladesh Army of 7th Bengal Regiment from Karengatali Army Camp led by Capt. John launched a military operation in Kattali, Balu Khali in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. During the operation Bangladesh army beat and tortured indigenous inhabitants. The victims are:
Hemanta Bikash Chakma (32), son of Goda Ram Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari. He was falsely accused of giving shelter to Shanti Bahini. Bangladedsh army took him to army camp at Karengatali, where he was beaten with sticks.
Bichi Khula Chakma (17), son of Binanda Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari. He was also falsely accused of collecting informations for Shanti Bahini. Bangladedsh army took him to the army camp at Karengatali, where he was beaten severely with stick.
Murati Chakma (16), son of Jatindra Lal Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari. He had similar treatment as mentioned in above no.
Kalodoy Chakma (18), son of Nirendra Lal Chakma of Balukhali, Baghaichari. He was falsely accused of being a Shanti Bahini and taken to army camp at Karengatali, where he was beaten, had water poured through
his nose and mouth, and subjected to electric shock.
