On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous people at Baghaichari leaving an indigenous man dead. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous Buddhist man gunned down by the Bangladesh army.
Bangladesh Rifles torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Baghaichari
On 9 May 1985, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) of 18 BN from Marishya Zone led by the Subedar Major launched a military operation at Balukhali, Jhogra Bil and Gola Chari in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. During the operation Bangladesh Rifles beat and tortued indigenous inhabitants. The victims are:
Rohini Ranjan Chakma (52), son of Kashta Muni Chakma of Balukhali, Baghaichari. BDR falsely accused him of giving shelter to Shanti Bahini and beat him with canes.
Mano Ranjan Chakma (50), son of Lalit Muni Chakma of Balukhali, Baghaichari. He had similar treatment for the same reason as mentioned above.
Baronya Chakma (48), son of Bekya Chakma of Jhogra Bil, Baghaichari. He was also victimized for the same reason as mentioned above.
Lorbua Chakma (51), son of Kamini Ranjan Chakma of Balukhali, Baghaichari. He had the same fate as mentioned above.
Chinmoy Chakma of Gola Chari, Baghaichari. BDR falsely accused him of being a helper of Shanti Bahini and serverely beat him.
