On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. On 15 May 1985, Bangladesh army of 7th Bengal Regiment from Karengatali Army Camp led by Capt. John arrested Khuku Moni Chakma, son of Bharat Chandra Chakma of Balukhali in Bagahichari, Rangamati district.
Bangladesh army arrested him on suspicion of being a member of Shanti Bahini. Bangladesh army took him to Karengatali Army Camp and brutally beat and tortured him with electric shock.
