On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked 5 indigenous Buddhist villages in Ramgarh and 2 indigenous villages in Manikchari in Chittagong Hill Tracts. In this attack around 200 indigenous houses including 2 Buddhist temples were torched. At least 20 indigenous people were injured and at least half dozen indigenous people were missing. Muslim settlers damaged and desecrated the Buddha image.

Bangladesh army desecrate Buddhist temple in Baghaichari

On 14 July 1985, Bangladesh army of 12th Bengal Regiment led by Capt. Amin raided the religious congregation at the Kattali Buddhist Temple in Baghaichari, Rangamati district. The Captain and his soldiers entered the temple with weapons and shoes on. It is forbidden to enter a Buddhist temple with weapons or shoes and its violation is considered as desecration on the Buddhism. The victims were taken to Karengatali Army Camp where they were subjected to beating and torture. The victims are:

  1. Peyara Khula Chakma (38), son of Arun Chandra Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  2. Dhul Peda Chakma (45), son of Ukil Chandra Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  3. Navin Chandra Chakma (48), son of Satish Chandra Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  4. Nuk Kuzu Chakma (20), son of Shantimoni Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  5. Joy Datta Chakma (16), son of Mala Chan Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  6. Lokkua Chakma (17), son of Ras Bihari Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  7. Siddheshwar Chakma (50), son of Banwari Chakma, of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  8. Ananta Nath Chakma (45), son of Arun Chandra Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
  9. Singha Nath Chakma (32), son of Arun Chandra Chakma of Kattali, Baghaichari.
