On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army terrorize indigenous people in Mohalchari

On 19 September 1985, Bangladgsh Army of 13th Bengal Regiment of Guimara Zone, 26th Bengal Regiment of Barabania Zone, 40th Bengal Regiment of Ghagra Zone and 9th Bengal Regiment of Longadu Zone launched a military operation against the indigenous people of Sankhola Para, Betchari Mukh, Jogonatuli, Bakchari, Chilonya, Korolya Chari, Madhya Adam, Chinginala, Bang Mara, Dewan Chara, Magha Chara, Loba Para, Kolabonya, Dhela Para and Monatek in Mohalchari, Khagrachari district. During the operation Bangladesh army beat and tortured indigenous people. The victims are:

  1. Dhirendra Lal Karbari (56), of Khularam Para, Mohalchari.
  2. Prasanna Kumar Chakma (47), of Madhya Adam, Mohalchari.
  3. Khaja Chakma (56), of Korolya Chari, Mohalchari.
  4. Vijay Kumar Chakma (47), of Korolya Chari, Mohalchari.
  5. Bhudar Chandra Chakma (58), of Korolya Chari, Mohalchari. He was taken to Guimara Army Camp and kept under army custody without bail or trial.
  6. Purna Manik Chakma (60), of Korolya Chari, Mohalchari.
