On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.
Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.
Bangladesh Rifles torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Panchari
On 13 October 1985, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) from Dhuduk Chara BDR camp led by Subedar Kobbat surrounded Korolya Chari in Panchari, Khagrachari district. BDR took 2 indigenous men to the camp and tortured them during custody. The victims are:
Olim Bihari Chakma (40), son of Matuli Karbari of Korolya Chari, Panchari. He was severely beaten and then he was taken to the camp. BDR released him after extorting Taka 5000.00 (five thousand taka).
Lal Bihari Chakma (22), son of Bira Bhagya Chakma. He was beaten and inhumanly tortured and taken to the camp. The Subedar let him go only after paying Taka 4000.00 (Four thousand taka).
