On 17 February 2011; Border Guards of Bangladesh and Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Longadu leaving at least 2 indigenous people seriously injured. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. A Chakma couple pick up the pieces after the house was burnt down by the settlers.
Bangladesh army terrorize indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Longadu
On 5 February 1986, Bangladesh army of 30 East Bengal Regiment carried out a military operation at No. 5 and No. 6 plantation areas in Longadu, Rangamati district. During the operation, Bangladesh army beat and tortured many indigenous Buddhist inhabitants. The motive was to drive out the indigenous Buddhist inhabitants and make room for Muslim settlers. The victims are identified as:
Parulya Chakma (35), son of Godachya Chakma of No.6 plantation project, Longadu.
Durgapada Chakma (44), son of Nikunja Chakma of No. 6 plantation project, Longadu.
Marey Mogh (30) son of Mang Chai Mogh of No. 5 plantation project, Longadu.
Sappya Chakma (38), son of Shoni Chakma of No. 5 plantation project, Longadu.
