On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Bengali Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.


Bangladesh army torture 2 indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Mohalchari

On February 6, 1986, Leut. Juglul of 13th EBR, Bangladesh army, Silban camp, arrested two persons from Madhya Adam and Dewano Chara, P.S. Mohalchari, for their support to the Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS).

The arrested persons were taken to the Buddhist Vihara of Madhya Adam where they were tortured by the Lieutenant who ordered his soldiers to hang them upside down and pour water in their mouths and noses. Below the names of the victims are mentioned:

  1. Kala Uda Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Tarani Chakma, of Dewano Chara, P.S. Mohalchari.
  2. Sudhir Chandra Member, 36 yrs, son of Tambru Dhawj Chakma, of Madhya Adam, P.S. Mohalchari.
