Vira Rani Chakma
On 19 December 1986, Bangladesh army men gang raped Vira Rani Chakma (16) of Nuaram Karbari Para, Dighinala. About 20 Bangladesh army personnel from the Viswa Ram Karbari Para army camp of Dighinala raided the indigenous Chakma village of Nuaram Karbari Para in the morning. All the male inhabitants of the village were taken by force to cut the jungle surrounding the army camp. Bangladesh army encircled the village at 11:00 a.m. and on the pretext of searching entered the houses. All the women and the girls who were in their houses, were stripped by the soldiers and were gang raped. Even the minors were not spared.

On February 15, 1986, Leut. Ahmed Sharif of 26th EBR, Bangladesh army, Baranachari army camp, Barabunnya Zone, raided the Chakma villages committing torture, rape and beating on the innocent inhabitants. Names of the victims are given below:

  1. Surama Devi Chakma, 28 yrs, wife of Anilya Chakma, of Petyachari, P.S. Longudu, was brutally raped by the soldiers who left her in bleeding condition.
  2. Kalabi Chakma, 45 yrs, wife of Ramani Mohan Chakma, of Silchari, P.S. Longudu, was physically tortured for refusing to give fowls free of cost to the soldiers.
  3. Chandra Gandha Chakma, 47 yrs, wife of Nalindra Chakma, of Tunyachari, P.S. Longudu, was severely beaten for being unable to give information about the Shanti Bahini.
  4. Ajolata Chakma, 21 yrs, wife of Nuachan Chakma, of Silchari, P.S. Longudu, was physically tortured and raped in front of her husband.
