On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

On 4 March 1986, Bangladesh army of 203 Brigade from Khagrachari led by Major Akhtar raided Rangapani Chara in Khagrachari. Bangladesh army rounded up 6 indigenous people from their homes and took them to Khagrachari for interrogation. Bangladesh army beat and tortured them while they were under Bangladesh army custody. The victims are:
