On 3 August 2004, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers killed 2 members of an indigenous Buddhist family in Dhandachara village of Bhushanchara in Barkal. At night at around 11 pm the Muslim settlers attacked Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma (33) and his family members with swords and spears. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma died on the spot and his wife Ms. Subarna Chakma (28) and 11 months old son Kampan Chakma were seriously injured. Next day on 4 August Ms. Subarna died from her injuries. Kampan Chakma got serious injuries at his right leg.
Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma people in Golachari
On March 5, 1986, soldiers from the army camp at Dhupsil, Kaptai, raided the village Golachari, P.S. Rangamati, and rounded up two innocent persons on accusation of being members of the Shanti Bahini. The arrested persons were taken to the camp where they were subjected to inhuman torture during interrogation. The persons are-
Sundarmoni Dewan, 19 yrs, son of Isan Chandra Dewan, of Golachari, P.S. Rangamati, was tortured with electric shocks and had water poured through the nose and the mouth.
Vira Tongchongya, 20 yrs, son of Goreiya Tongchongya, address as above, was also tortured as above.
