Jyoti Ranjan Chakma, victim of Muslim settler attack at Jaliapara
On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. At Jaliapara, the Muslim settlers stopped every vehicle and looked for indigenous people. Senior government official Jyoti Ranjan Chakma was taken off a bus and severely beaten up.

On March 11, 1986, Rajani Kanta Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Rajendra Chakma, of Silchari, P.S. Longudu, was ordered to report at the Zonal Head Quarters by Leut. Col. Zillur Rahman, C.O. (Commanding Officer) of 26th EBR Bangladesh army, Barabunnya Zone, for information about the Shanti Bahini.

As he could not give them any information about the Shanti Bahini camps and their hide outs, he was immediately taken into the interrogation room and flogged with a whip.

After being released, he returned home with his white shirt stained with blood due to whipping. The incident created panic among the innocent inhabitants of the village.
