On 14 December 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Baghaichari and Dighinala following the death of a settler named Mohamed Sattar. An indigenous woman named Chikon Mila Chakma was killed in Dighinala and at least 10 indigenous people were injured. Mr. Ronik Chakma was one of the indigenous victims.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Longudu

On March 16, 1986, Ananda Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Hola Bujjya, of Barkolok, P.S. Longudu, was rounded up in his house by Maj. Mustafizur Rahman of 26th EBR, Bangladesh army, Barabunnya Zone. He was taken to Tunyachari Buddhist Vihara where he was interrogated and subjected to inhuman physical torture. The army wanted to get a confession in order to file a criminal case against him for being involved with the Shanti Bahini.

The army officer also desecrated the temple having no respect for its religious sanctity by entering the temple without taking off his boots and carried a gun with him and an ill remark-

"Britishers couldn't make these Kafirs (Non-believers in Islam but the term is used by the Bengali Muslims to mean as inferior hated being) accept Christianity but we are going to force them embrace Islam".

  1. Bharat Varsa Chakma, 42 yrs, son of Medera Chakma, address as above, was also rounded up in his house and tortured by Maj. Mustafizur Rahman on the same day as above.
