On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous victims live in open ground after their homes were burnt down by the Muslim settlers.

Bengali settlers attack 2 indigenous Buddhist villages in Merung

On 11 July 1986, Muslim settlers robbed the house of Kamala Kanti Chakma, son of Binanda Rakhal Chakma, of Ghulchari, Betchari, P.S. Merung, looting all his properties including gold, silver ornaments, cattle, goats amounting Taka 50,000.

On the same day, the Muslim settlers of Roshik Nagor Para attacked the Chakma village of Ghulchari Mohajan Para, P.S. Merung, with deadly weapons shouting Islamic and communal slogans such as-

'Yah Ali', 'Allah-O-Akbar', 'Down with Kafirs', 'We want Chakma blood', 'Chakmas go away', etc. and carried out looting and arson in the village creating panic among the Chakmas who had to take shelter in the jungles to save their lives from the attacking Muslim hordes.
