On 19 December 1986, Bangladesh army men gang raped Rita Chakma (13) of Nuaram Karbari Para, Dighinala. About 20 Bangladesh army personnel from the Viswa Ram Karbari Para army camp of Dighinala raided the indigenous Buddhist village of Nuaram Karbari Para in the morning. All the male inhabitants of the village were taken by force to cut the jungle surrounding the army camp. Bangladesh army encircled the village at 11:00 a.m. and on the pretext of searching entered the houses. Bangladesh army stripped all the women and the girls who were in their houses, and gang raped. Even the minors were not spared.
Bangladesh army rape indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Dighinala
On 19 December 1986, 20 Bangladesh army personnel from the army camp at Viswa Ram Karbari Para (Nuaram Karbari Para) of Boal Khali, Dighinala raided the indigenous Buddhist village Nuaram Karbari Para in Dighinala, Khagrachari district.
Bangladesh army took all the male inhabitants of the village by force to cut the jungles surrounding the camp. Then Bangladesh army encircled the village at 11:00 hrs. and on the pretext of search entered the houses and stripped all the women and girls who were found in their houses and subjected them to gang rape. One minor girl was raped to death by Bangladesh army. The victims are:
Mrs. Shanti Rani Chakma (29 yrs), wife of Mr. Jnana Ranjan Chakma of Nuaram Karbari Para, Boal Khali, Dighinala. She was a victim of gang rape by the army personnel. She is now a refugee in India, sheltered at Takumbari Refugee Camp, Tripura.
Miss. Vira Rani Chakma (16 yrs), daughter of Mr. Guno Sindhu Chakma, address as above. She was a victim of gang rape by the army personnel. She is now a refugee in India, sheltered at Takumbari Refugee Camp, Tripura.
Miss. Rita Chakma (13 yrs), daughter of Mr. Manoranjan Chakma, address as above. She was a victim of gang rape by the army personnel. She is now a refugee in India, sheltered at Takumbari Refugee Camp, Tripura.
Mrs. Purna Bala Chakma (22 yrs), wife of Mr. Lakshmi Dhon Chakma, address as above. She was a victim of gang rape by the army personnel. She is now a refugee in India, sheltered at Takumbari Refugee Camp, Tripura.
Bimola Chakma (12 yrs), daughter of Mr. Vimal Chandra Chakma, address as above. The victim was looking after the cattles near the village. The soldiers fell upon her. She was raped to death by 7 Bangladesh army personnel.
