On 25 December 1986 at 6:00 a.m Bangladeshi army personnel from the Dighinala cantonment rounded up Mr. Baribindu Chakma (38) son of Mr. Jatindra Lal Chakma of Sadhok Chara, Dighinala. Bangladesh army tied his hands and then severely beat him. Bangladesh army men laid him on the ground and kicked him like a football. They hammered his fingers. He was released after 8 and 1/2 hours of torture. He took refuge in Tripura state of India.

Bangladesh army torture an indigenous Chakma Buddhist in Dighinala

On 25 December 1986, 120 Bangladesh army personnel from Dighinala Cantonment raided the indigenous Buddhist village Sadhok Chara in Dighinala, Khagrachari district. During the raid Bangladesh army arrested an indigenous Chakma Buddhist.

The victim is Mr. Bari Bindu Chakma (38 yrs), son of Mr. Jatindra Lal Chakma of Sadhok Chara, Dighinala. He was rounded up from his home by the army personnel at 06:00 hrs. He was subjected to inhuman torture during the interrogation. His hands were tied behind his back and then he was severely beaten. Bangladesh army laid him on the ground and kicked him like a football. Bangladesh army extinguished lighted cigarettes on his face.

Bangladesh army forced him to say Islamic Kalima

. During the interrogation Bangladesh army asked him questions insulting his Buddhist religion. He was asked
What did Lord Buddha say to you
? In reply, he was forced to say
To get beaten up by the army
and they would burst in laughter abusing him in filthy Bengali language. They also hammered his fingers during the interrogation. He was tortured for 8 and 1/2 hours. He was released at 14:30 hrs.

The victim is now a refugee in India. He took refuge at Takumbari Refugee Camp in Tripura.
