On 19-20 February 2010; Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Baghaichari. The settlers destroyed many indigenous houses and Buddhist temples. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Chakma Buddhists and grab their land. One of the Buddhist temples burnt down by the settlers.
Bangladesh army persecute indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Panchari
On 06 Feb. 1987, Bangladesh army of 19 East Bengal Regiment from the army camp at Nalkaba led by Major Ishak carried out a military operation against the indigenous people of Paujjya Chari in Panchari, Khagrachari district. During the operation Bangladesh army severely beat a Buddhist monk, an innocent Chakma Buddhist was shot at and his daughter was severely beaten. The victims are:
Mr. Kaladhon Chakma (35), son of Mr. Soikontor Chakma of Paujjya Chari, Panchari. The victim's house was encircled by the army personnel and he was beaten and shot at due to which he was severely injured. He had to be taken to a hospital at Panchari where he was treated for injuries.
Sona Chakma (8), daughter of Mr. Kaladhon Chakma of Paujjya Chari, Panchari. She was severely beaten by the army personnel.
Rev. Azappa Bhikshu (65), of Buddhist Vihara at Paujjya Chari, Panchar1. He was inhumanely beaten by the army personnel. They also entered the Vihara (temple) with boots and automatic weapons slinging on shoulders. They started bgating the Buddhist monk. Bangladesh army personnel abused him in filthy Bengali words and the soldiers spat on him while he was being beaten.
