On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

The settlers are attacking South Kalindipur area on 22nd September.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Barkal

On 27 May 1987, Bangladesh army of 8th EBR from the army camp at Lolung Chari and Zaksha Bazar led by Lt. Hameed carried out a massive military operation against the indigenous people of Midinga Chari, Sapchari, Lolung Chari, Gobo Chari, Dheba Chara in Barkal, Rangamati district. During the operation, Bangladesh army beat and tortured many indigenous people. Even Buddhist Monks were not spared. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Sudhir Ranjan Chakma (50), son of late Hara Chandra Chakma of Midinga Chari, Barkal. He was mercilessly beaten and injured by the army personnel.
  2. Mr. Upendra Lal Chakma (47), son of Mr. Sudhir Ranjan Chakma of Midinga Chari, Barkal. He was mercilessly beaten and injured by the army personnel.
  3. Mr. Sattyaban Chakma (45), son of late Sarashi Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  4. Mr. Lakshmi Kumar Chakma (50), son of Mr. Sada Chan Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  5. Mr. Bimal Chandra Chakma (30), son of Mr. Lakshmi Kumar Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  6. Mr. Amrita Lal Chakma (47), son of late Jatra Mohan Chakma of Sapohari, Barkal. He was beaten as above.
  7. Mr. Gunodhar Karbari (40), son of late Bhagyadhon Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  8. Mr. Bira Bahu Chakma (45), son of Mr. Chandra Moni Chakma, of Lolungchari, Barkal. He was beaten as above.
  9. Mr. Sashi Kumar Chakma (60), son of Mr. Chandrajit Chakma, of Gobochari, Barkal. He was beaten as above.
  10. Mr. Maya Nanda Chakma (19), son of Mr. Chandra Lal Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  11. Mr. Barun Chandra Chakma (18), son of Mr. Nishi Mohan Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  12. Mr. Oboni Ranjan Chakma (27), son of Mr. Sashi Mohan Chakma, of Gobochari, Barkal. He was injured due to merciless army beating.
  13. Mr. Nishi Mohan Chakma (45), son of late Raj Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  14. Miss Nirota Chakma (16), daughter of Mr. Mukto Lal Chakma, of Dheba Chara, Barkal. He was beaten as above.
  15. Mr. Sneha Ranjan Chakma (20), son of Mr. Mukto Lal Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  16. Mr. Doyal Chandra Chakma (22), son of Mr. Mukto Lal Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  17. Mr. Kiron Chandra Chakma, son of Mr. Mukto Lal Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  18. Mr. Sona Ratan Chakma (18), son of Mr. Nauka Bilash Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  19. Reverend Ratna Jyoti Bhikshu (30), of Midinga Chari Buddhist Vihara, Barkal. He was beaten as above.
  20. Reverend Vishuddha Nanda Sramana, address as above. He was beaten as above.
