On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Naniachar

On 22 Aug. 1987, Bangladesh army from Naniachar Camp, led by Capt. Syed rounded up indigenous Buddhist people from a local market at Burighat in Naniachar, Rangmati district. Bangladesh army subjected them to inhuman physical torture and beating. The victims are:

  1. Master Mrinal Kanti Chakma (16), son of Mr. Robi Chakma, of Dhajjya Chari. BD army severely beat him.
  2. Mr. Otul Chandra Chakma (16), son of Mr. Nutan Chandra Chakma of Krishnama Chara, Burighat. He was beaten with a stick.
  3. Mr. Bhim Chandra Chakma (20), son of Mr. Bujjyali Chakma of Ram Hori Para, Burighat. He was blind folded and then severely beaten up by the Captain.
  4. Mr. Cizigula Dewan (25), son of Mr. Amarendra Dewan of Boradam, Naniachar. He was severely beaten by the army personnel.
