On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.


h3>Bangladesh Rifles torture indigenous people in Panchari

On 30 Aug. 1987, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) of 24th Battalion from Dhuduk Chara BDR camp launched a military operation against the indigenous people of Anil Chandra Para in Panchari, Khagrachari district. During the operation, the BDR subjected many indigenous people to merciless beating. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Jamini Ranjan Chakma (31), son of Mr. Niranjan Chakma of Anil Chandra Para, Panchari. He was subjected to inhuman beating by the BDR personnel.
  2. Mr. Gopal Chakma (32), son of Mr. Chigonya Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  3. Mr. Jawaharlal Chakma (32), address as above. He was beaten as above.
  4. Mr. Shibonya Chakma (17), son of Mr. Lolit Mohan Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  5. Mr. Sarweshwar Chakma (36), son of Mr. Jodu Moni Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  6. Mr. Sigon Morottua Chakma (32), son of Mr. Kobiraj Chakma, address as above. He was beaten as above.
  7. Miss Hemolata Chakma (29), daughter of Mr. Gopal Chakma, address as above. She was beaten and molested.
