On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. The indigenous victims live in open ground after their homes were burnt down by the Muslim settlers.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Zurochari

On 23 Nov. 1987, Bangladesh army of 12th East Bengal Regiment from the army camp at Fakira Chara led by Lt. Mustafa carried out a military operation against the indigenous people of Chittima Chara in Zurochari, Rangamati district. During the operation, many innocent persons were tortured, injured and arrested by the army personnel. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Deba Brata Chakma (25) of Chittima Chara, Dumdumya Union, Zurochari. He was arrested and taken to the army camp at Zaksha Bazar where he was tortured and seriously injured.
  2. Mr. Kamini Kumar Chakma (48), address as above. Tortured and seriously injured at the army camp at Zaksha Bazar.
  3. Mr. Subash Priya Chakma (35), address as above. Arrested and taken to the army camp at Zaksha Bazar, where he was tortured and seriously injured.
  4. Mr. Ananda Kumar Chakma (35) of Sukna Chari, Banjogi Chara Union, Zurachari. Tortured at the army camp at Zaksha Bazar and seriously injured.
  5. Mr. Suresh Kumar Chakma (24) of Banjogi Chara Union, Zurochari. He was tortured as above.
