On 17 April 2011 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people at Ramgarh leaving at least 2 indigenous people dead and scores injured and missing. The aim of the attack was to drive out the indigenous Buddhists and grab their land. At Jaliapara, the Muslim settlers stopped every vehicle and looked for indigenous people. Senior government official Jyoti Ranjan Chakma was taken off a bus and severely beaten up.
Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Dighinala
On 11 April 1988, Bangladesh army personnel from the army camps at Merung and Chongra Chari carried out a military operation against the indigenous inhabitants of Lamba Chara, Merung, Chongra Chari Baradam in Dighinala, Khagrachari district. During the operation Bangladesh army arrested and
tortured many indigenous people. The victims are:
Mr. Hara Kumar Chakma (26), son of Mr. Rabi Chandra Chakma of Chongra Chari, Rengkajya Mouza, Merung. He was severely beaten by the army personnel.
Mr. Sadhan Kumar Chakma (22), son of Mr. Kinaram Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten up by the army personnel.
Mr. Gunadhar Chakma (45), son of Mr. Galadhar Chakma of Merung, Dighinala. Beaten as above.
Mr. Alichan Chakma (30), son of Mr. Harbua Chakma, address as above.
Mr. Khagendra Tripura (39), son of Mr. Bhuban Mohan Tripura of Lamba Chara, Merung. He was severely beaten and tortured by the army personnel due to which one of his teeth was broken.
Mr. Tukru Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to inhuman physical torture.
