On 5 April 2017, Bangladesh army arrested Romel Chakma (19) from Naniarchar Bazar in Rangamati district.
Bangladesh army took him to Naniarchar zone headquarters. Lt. Col. Bahalul Alam and Major Tanvir inhumanly tortured him.
On 19 April 2017 at 2:00 pm Romel Chakma died during treatment under police custody in Chittagong Medical College hospital.
When Romel Chakma's parents and relatives were taking his dead body by boat from Burighat bazar to Hatimara village on 20 April,
Bangladesh army snatched the dead body from Ronnel Chakma's relatives at gun point and burned the dead body to ashes in a secret
place to destroy evidence.
Bangladesh army shot dead inidigenous person in Dighinala
On 28 April 1988, An armed encounter between the Shanti Bahini and the Bangladesh army took place at Banchara in Dighinala, Khagrachari district.
In the armed encounter, Bangladesh army suffered casualties. As reprisal, Bangladesh army shot 2 indigenous persons. One died instantly and the other a female teacher of a primary school was seriously wounded. The female teacher was shot as she resisted against being raped by the army personnel. The victims are:
Mr. Sashankha Chakma (23), son of Mr. Saminda Chakma of
Boradam, Dighinala. He was shot dead by the army personnel.
Mrs. Kalpana Chakma (27), wife of Mr. Jay Chandra Chakma,
of Dane Banchara, Dighinala.
