On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.

Bangladesh army torture indigenous people in Khagrachari
On 12 August 1988, Bangladesh army of Khagrachari Zone led by Lt. Harun carried out a military operation against the indigenous inhabitants of Perachara in Khagrachari. During the operation, Bangladesh army arrested, blind folded and tortured indigenous people. The victims were hung upside down from trees. The victims are:
Mr. Manik Chandra Chakma of Perachara, Khagrachari. He was blind folded and his shoulders were stabbed with a knife.
Mr. Gala Dhan Chakma, son of Mr. Kalakudhi Bap Chakma, address as above. He was beaten and tortured.
Mr. Chakra Chakma, a cattle herder employed by Mr. Gala Dhan Chakma. He was kicked to the ground.
