On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati.
When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers.
76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed.
Bangladesh army tortures 2 indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Mahalchari
On 6 Sept. 1988, Bangladesh army intelligence personnel arrested 2 indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Mahalchari, Khagrachari district. Bangladesh army intelligence personnnel took the 2 indigenous men to the Head Quarter of 1st EBR, Mahalchari Zone. Bangladesh army subjected the indigenous men to severe physical torture. The victims are:
Mr. Matilal Chakma, 30 yrs, son of Mr. Kali Mohan Chakma, of Tabalchari, No. 249 Kyanghat Mouza, Mahalchari. He was going to visit his father-in-law and carrying 4 fowls for his father-in-law. Bangladesh army robbed the fowls. Bangladesh army tortured him for 2 days and released him on 8 September, 1988.
Mr. Pralay Kishta Chakma, 30 yrs, a surrendered Shanti Bahini, son of Mr. Bijoy Bihari Chakma, address as above. He was also arrested along with Mr. Motilal Chakma and tortured.
