On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers massacred about 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Bablu Chakma the son of Manek Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the vessel. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.
Bangladesh army terrorizes indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Barkal
On 23 Dec. 1988, Bangladesh army personnel of 41 EBR from Kukichara Camp launched a military operation against the indigenous inhabitants of Kukichara in Barkal, Rangamati district. During the operation Bangladesh army robbed and beat indigenous Chakma Buddhists and set their houses on fire. The victims are:
Mr. Lurangya Chakma, 48 yrs, son of Mr. Lal Chan Chakma, of Kukichara, Barkal. He was beaten and his house was burnt to ashes. The following properties were looted from him- 40 quintals of paddy, 4 quintals of rapeseeds, 5 quintals of ginger, 1 bullock and all the house hold goods.
Mr. Jnana Kumar Chakma, 36 yrs, son of Mr. Dhada Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten. his house was set on fire. BD Army robbed following properties from him- 30 quintals of paddy, 3 quintals of rapeseeds, 1 quintal of rice and all other house hold properties.
Mr. Biraj Kumar Chakma, 25 yrs, son of Mr. Lurangya Chakma, address as above. BD Army beat him and set his house on fire. BD Army robbed following properties from him— 19 quintals of paddy, 2 quintals of rapeseeds, 80 kilos of rice and all other house hold properties.
Mr. Parandhan Chakma, 28 yrs, son of Mr. Sundarakha Chakma, address as above. His house was burnt to ashes and the following properties were looted from him— 18 quintals of paddy, 3 quintals of rapeseeds and all the house hold properties.
Mr. Akshay Dhan Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Sundarakha Chakma, address as above. BD Army set his house on fire. BD Army robbed following properties- 41 quintals of paddy, 3 quintals of rapeseeds, 1
quintal of cotton and all the house hold properties.
Mr. Sharanya Chakma, 58 yrs, son of Mr. Lal Chan Chakma, address as above. BD Army set his house on fire. BD Army robbed following properties- 10 quintals of paddy and other house hold properties.
Mr. Nalanya Chakma, 59 yrs, son of Mr. Dhananjay Chakma, address as above. His house was set on fire. BD Army robbed 25 quintals of paddy and all the other house hold properties.
