On 22 September 2012 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers attacked indigenous Buddhist people in Rangamati. When the indigenous people counter attacked in self defence Bangladesh army took side with the Muslim settlers. 76 indigenous people were injured and numerous indigenous properties were destroyed. Dr. Shusovon Dewan is an indigenous physician in Rangamati. Muslim settlers mercilessly beat him when they found him in the street.

Bangladesh army tortures an indigenous Chakma Buddhist in Panchari

On 7 Feb. 1989, Bangladesh army from Chikan Chari Army Camp launched a military operation against the indigenous Buddhist people in Panchari, Khagrachari district. During the operation Bangladesh army inhumanly beat and tortured an indigenous Chakma Buddhist. The victim is:

1. Mr. Rajani Kanta Chakma, 45 yrs, son of late Chinta Haran Chakma of Matuli Karbari Para, Panchari.

India was partitioned on the basis of religion in 1947. 98.5% of the CHT population was non-Muslim during the partition. The indigenous people of CHT opted to join either India or Burma. But Muslim League conspired with the Boundary Commission and illegally annexed CHT with East Pakistan in violation of the principle of partition. Successive Bangladesh governments have been sponsoring Muslim settlers from plain land to dilute the indigenous people of CHT.

Bangladesh army's role in CHT is to protect the Muslim settlers and carry out massacre, extra-judicial killing, torture, detention without trial, land grabbing, rape, religious persecution and ethnic cleansing against indigenous Buddhist, Hindu and Animist people in CHT.
