Suradini Chakma of Mallya Massace
On 2 February 1992 Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers killed at least 30 indigenous Chakma Buddhists at Mallya. One of them was Mrs. Suradini Chakma the wife of Manek Kumar Chakma. Two bombs exploded on a river ferry at Mallya. The explosion killed a passenger and seriously injured the skipper of the ferry. The survivors swam ashore but the armed Muslim settlers were waiting for them and attacked the indigenous Chakma Buddhists - men women and children.

Bengali settlers terrorize indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Longadu

On 2 March 1989, Muslim settlers and Lt. Col. Shaidul Islam the Zonal Commander Mainee Mukh Zone conspired to attack the indigenous Buddhist inhabitants of Baradam in Longadu, Rangamati district. The attack was led by Yusuf Ali, a Muslim settler along with the VDP (Village Defence Party) personnel of Sonai Camp and Uluchari Police Camp.

Muslim settlers and VDP encircled the village at about 8 a.m. During the attack, Muslim settlers and VDP resorted to looting, rape and beating the indigenous Chakma Buddhists enmasse. Muslim settlers and VDP took hostage about 57 indigenous Buddhist men, women and children. The indigenous victims were all blind folded and were taken to a nearby jungle. Men, women and children were separated. Men and children were subjected to inhuman beating and tortures while women were subjected to gang rape by the Muslim settlers. Muslim settlers and VDP also robbed ornaments from the indigenous women.

Muslim settlers and VDP had plan to massacre the indigenous Buddhist victims. But the incident could not remain secret. Other indigenous people tried to rescue the victims. Ultimately, the victims were released by Lt. Col. Shaidul Islam on 3 March, 1989. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Surendra Lal Chakma, 42 yrs, son of Mr. Sarat Chandra Chakma of Kumod Para, Baradam, Longadu. Severely beaten with sticks.
  2. Mr. Bibhishan Chakma, 36 yrs, son of Mr. Punangya Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.

  5. Mr. Areibua Chakma, 18 yrs, son of Mr. Indra Mohan Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.
  6. Mr. Sandara Chakma, 55 yrs, son of Mr. Kalya Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.
  7. Mr. Biayanda Mani Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Nipindra Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.

  14. Miss Parabina Chakma, 13 yrs, daughter of Mr. Birendra Chakma, address as above. Muslim settlers and VDP gang raped her.
  15. Mr. Jnanadip Chakma, 11 yrs, son of Mr. Birendra Chakma, address as above. Inhumanly beaten with sticks.
  16. Mr. Pandab Chakma, 7 yrs, son of Mr. Birendra Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.
  17. Miss Bishaya Chakma, 5 yrs, daughter of Mr. Birendra Chakma, address as above.
  18. Miss Joshica Chakma, 2 yrs, daughter of Mr. Birendra Chakma, address as above. She was slapped and thrown away from her mother.
  19. Mrs. Jubatara Chakma, 35 yrs, wife of Mr. Bijanta Mani Chakma, address as above. She was subjected to gang rape.
  20. Mr. Marat Shabua Chakma, 1 yr, son of Mr. Bijanta Mani Chakma, address as above. He was thrown away from his mother.
  21. Mrs. Srabani Chakma, 25 yrs, wife of Mr. Bhagirath Chakma, address as above. She was subjected to gang rape.
  22. Mr. Bijan Kanti Chakma, 7 yrs, son of Mr. Bhagirath Chakma, address as above. He was inhumanly beaten.
  23. Miss Gorika Chakma, 5 yrs, daughter of Mr. Bhagirath Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.
  24. Miss Choto Chakma, 2 yrs, daughter of Mr. Bhagirath Chakma, address as above. She was thrown away from her mother.
  25. Mrs. Banima Chakma, 26 yrs, wife of Mr. Kanya Ram Chakma, address as above. She was subjected to gang rape.
  26. Miss Areibua Chakma, 6 yrs, daughter of Mr. Kanya Ram Chakma, address as above. She was beaten inhumanly.
  27. Mr. Dungya Chakma, 3 yrs, son of Mr. Kanya Ram Chakma, address as above. Beaten as above.
  28. Mrs. Ananga Mukhi Chakma, 40 yrs, wife of Mr. Biraj Mani Chakma, address as above. Subjected to gang rape.
  29. Mr. Atul Bikash Chakma, 15 yrs, son of Mr. Biraj Mani Chakma, address as above. He was beaten inhumanly with sticks.
  30. Mrs. Shoijata Chakma, 30 yrs, wife of Mr. Kungkya Marma, address as above. She was subjected to gang rape.

  38. Miss Chitra Chakma, 2 yrs, daughter of Mr. Natun Chandra Chakma, address as above. She was slapped and thrown away from her mother.
  39. Mrs. Kitya Lila Chakma, 32 yrs, wife of Mr. Anadi Chakma, address as above. She was subjected to gang rape.

  54. Miss Ripana Chakma, 14 yrs, daughter of Mr. Nakul Chandra Chakma, address as above. She was subjected to gang rape.
  55. Mr. Baikuntha Chakma, 42 yrs, son of Mr. Chitta Chakma of Battya Chara. He was beaten inhumanly.
  56. Miss Subarna Chakma, 8 yrs, daughter of Mr. Hiranmay Chakma, of Mubachari, Mahalchari. Beaten as above.
  57. Mr. Sakya Singh Chakma, 26 yrs, son of Mr. Shyam Chakma, of Manikjor Chara, Longadu. Beaten as above.
  58. Mr. Rabi Chandra Chakma, son of late Sashi Kumar Chakma. Muslim settlers and VDP robbed Tk. 9,000.00 (Nine thousand Takas) and one fishing net from him.
  59. Mr. Birendra Lal Chakma, son of Mr. Chandra Chakma. One wrist watch (Seiko 5) worth Tk. 1500.00 (one thousand five hundred Takas) was robbed from him.
  60. Mr. Arun Prakash Chakma, son of late Raj Mani Chakma. Following articles and cash were robbed from him- Tk. 2400.00 (Two thousand and four hundred Takas); 60 kilogram rice; gold ear rings worth Tk. 2500.00 (Two thousand and five hundred Takas); gold rings worth Tk. 5000.00 (Five thousand takas); gold ear rings worth Tk. 3500.00 (Three thousand and five hundred takas); 1 piece of lungi; 2 shirts; 1 piece dhoti; 1 kitchen knife; 1 spade; 2 goats.
  61. Mr. Braja Kumar Chakma, son of late Raj Mani Chakma. Following cash and articles were robbed from him: Tk. 500.00 (five hundred takas); 1 umbrella.
  62. Mr. Shanti Ranjan Chakma, son of late Kalachan Chakma. Following cash and documents were robbed from him: Tk. 600.00 (Six hundred takas); all documents relating to land registration.
  63. Mr. Basu Kumar Chakma, son of late Hara Chandra Chakma. Following cash and articles were robbed from him: Tk. 800.00 (Eight hundred takas); 1 umbrella; 1 pair of lungi; 1 plough.
  64. Mr. Maungkya Marma. Tk. 300.00 (Three hundred takas); gold ear rings worth Tk. 2500.00 (Two thousand and five hundred takas); 1 pair of bed cover.
  65. Mr. Biraj Mani Chakma, son of late Bujjya Chakma. Tk. 500.00 (Five hundred takas); 2 shirts; 2 vests; 1 torch, 1 pair of bullocks; 1 axe; 1 kitchen knife.
  66. Mr. Rebati Mohan Dewan, son of late Kuri Choga Dewan. Tk. 400.00 (Four hundred takas); 60 kilogram rice; 1 piece of dhoti; 1 kitchen knife.
  67. Mr. Basud Ranjan Chakma, son of late Dhalachan Chakma. Tk. 700.00 (Seven hundred takas); 1 and 1/2 quintals of rice; 4 quintals of paddy; 5 kilograms of dried chilli; 1 bed cover; 1 mosquito net; 1 pair of torches; 1 pair of shoes; 1 spade.
  68. Mr. Sarat Kumar Chakma. 2 goats.
  69. Mr. Laxmi Charan Chakma, son of late Taruni Sen Chakma. Tk. 750.00 (Seven hundred and fifty takas); 2 blankets; c. 2 quilts; 4 pillows; 1 pair of lungis; 1 pair of slippers; 80 kilograms of rice.
  70. Mr. Shanti Bilash Chakma, son of Mr. Sarat Kumar Chakma. 20 kilograms of paddy; 1 quilt; 1 mosquito net.
  71. Mr. Bibhison Chakma. 1 suit case; 1 mosquito net.
  72. Mr. Bipanta Mani Chakma. Tk. 900.00 (Nine hundred takas); 50 kilograms of paddy.
  73. Mr. Indra Mohan Chakma, son of late Nanda Kumar Chakma. Tk. 1000.00 (One thousand takas); 1 radio receiver; 1 torch; 1 umbrella.
  74. Mr. Pandikya Chakma, son of Mr. Chitra Banshi Chakma. 80 kilograms of paddy.
  75. Mr. Chulu Mani Chakma, son of Mr. Indra Mohan Chakma. Tk. 550.00 (Five hundred and fifty takas); 1 gold ring worth Tk. 2500.00 (Two thousand and five hundred takas); 1 pair of gold nose rings worth Tk. 600.00 (Six hundred takas); 1 radio receiver; 60 kilograms of paddy.
