Settlers argue with Buddhist monk
In August 2007, Bangladesh army backed Muslim settlers broke into the boundary of Sadhantila Buddhist Temple in Dighinala and began erecting houses inside the temple boundary. Here the settlers argue with resident Buddhist monk.

Bangladesh army terrorizes indigenous Chakma Buddhists in Longadu

On 19 March, 1989, About 200 Bangladesh army personnel from Karalya Chari Camp, Changra Chari Camp and Mainee Mukh Camp led by Major Atiyar, Capt. Hassan and Capt. Shahidullah raided the indigenous Buddhist villages- Kaptala, Reing Kajya, Bara Kangra Kheiya, Choto Kangra Kheiya and Changra Chari in Longadu, Rangamati district.

During the raid Bangladesh army personnel resorted to robbing, arsoning and beating the indigenous Buddhist inhabitants en masse. The victims are:

  1. Mr. Nala Karbari, 55 yrs, son of Mr. Chandya Chakma of Kaptala Longadu. He was severely beaten, his house was set on fire and 10 quintals of paddy and 14 quintals of ginger were robbed.
  2. Mr. Manuray Chakma, 62 yrs, son of late Man Chandra Chakma, address as above. His house was set on fire. 60 quintals of paddy and 2 quintals of ginger were robbed.
  3. Mr. Lamba Chakma, son of late Purna Chakma, address as above. His house was set on fire. 2 quintals of paddy and 2 quintals of ginger were robbed.
  4. Mr. Nila Nath Chakma, 40 yrs, son of late Hukka Chakma, address as above. His house was set on fire.
  5. Mr. Jagatsen Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Ranga Uda Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to beating. His house was set on fire. 2 quintals of turmeric and 1 quintal of ginger were robbed.
  6. Mr. Barpeda Chakma, 50 yrs, son of Mr. Manga Kumar Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to beating and 9 fowls were robbed from him.
  7. Mr. Gajendra Chakma, 16 yrs, son of Mr. Antara Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten.
  8. Mr. Amiya Bikash Chakma, 28 yrs, son of Mr. Badi Kumar Chakma of Bar Kangra Kheiya, Longadu. He was beaten and kicked. All his house hold properties were destroyed.
  9. Mr. Bira Kumar Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Surendra Mohan Chakma, address as above. His house hold properties were destroyed.
  10. Mr. Padajya Chakma, 50 yrs, son of Mr. Chitra Sen Chakma, address as above. He was interrogated and tortured by an army Lieutenant. He was forced to give 3 fowls to the army personnel free of charge.
  11. Mr. Uba Chula Chakma, 6O yrs, son of Mr. Nigalya Chakma, address as above. He was beaten. 20 kilograms of rice and 1 quintal of turmeric were robbed from him.
  12. Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma, 25 yrs, son of Mr. Gudu Moni Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to beating and he was forced to give 3 fowls and 20 eggs to the army personnel free of charge.
  13. Mr. Batya Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Hemandra Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to beating and tortures. 5 fowls were robbed from him.
  14. Mr. Laxmi Kamal Chakma, 44 yrs, son of Mr. Surjya Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was interrogated and tortured by the army major.
  15. Mr. Brata Mohan Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Jangalya Chakma of Changra Chari, Merung, Longadu. He was severely beaten and 3 fowls were robbed from him.
  16. Mr. Kripa Ranjan Chakma, 30 yrs, son of Mr. Kamini Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to beating and 4 blankets were robbed from him.
  17. Mrs. Champa Pati Chakma, 65 yrs, wife of Mr. Biza Chakma, address as above. Tk. 250.00 and 2 bed covers were robbed from her.
  18. Mr. Changala Chakma, 64 yrs, son of Mr. Pakya Chakma, address as above. Tk. 200.00, a goat worth Tk. 1000.00 and 2 fowls were robbed from him.
  19. Mr. Laxmi Chandra Chakma, 30 yrs, son of Mr. Bangalichan Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to severe beating and his house hold properties were robbed.
  20. Mr. Dharas Chandra Chakma, 45 yrs, son of Mr. Hola Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten and all his house hold properties were robbed.
  21. Mr. Rizav Chandra Chakma, 6O yrs, son of Mr. Paisaram Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten and was forced to give 4 fowls and 12 eggs free of cost to the army personnel.
  22. Mr. Lamanya Chakma, 46 yrs, son of Mr. Chandra Kumar Chakma of Changra Chari, Longadu. He was tortured by Capt. Hassan. A goat worth Tk. 800.00, 20 kilograms of rice and 10 kilograms of dried chilli were robbed from him.
  23. Mr. Supidev Chakma, 26 yrs, son of Mr. Sushanta Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to tortures and his house along with house hold properties were set on fire.
  24. Mr. Pulinya Chakma, 35 yrs, of Atarak Chara, Longadu. He was tortured and interrogated by army Lieutenant.
  25. Mr. Aparud Bilash Chakma, 30 yrs, son of Mr. Punangya Chakma, of Bar Kangra Kheiya, Longadu. He was subjected to beating and 5 fowls were robbed from him.
  26. Mr. Anantasen Chakma, 55 yrs, son of Mr. Binadhan Chakma, address as above. 3 fowls were robbed from him.
  27. Mr. Sukamal Chakma, 47 yrs, son of Mr. Surja Chandra Chakma, address as above. He was severely beaten and 1 quintal of paddy was robbed from him.
  28. Mr. Sadhan Kumar Chakma, 35 yrs, son of Mr. Binadhan Chakma, address as above. He was subjected to beating and 4 fowls were robbed from him.
  29. Mr. Makka Chakma, 30 yrs, son of Mr. Mohabya Chakma, of Choto Kangra Kheiya, Longadu. 20 kilograms of rice, 1/2 quintal of paddy and 5 kilograms of dried chilli were robbed from him.
  30. Mr. Krishna Dayal Chakma, 37 yrs, son of Mr. Surjya Mohan Chakma, address as above. He was beaten and 1 quintal of paddy and 3 fowls were robbed from him.
