On 26 August 2003; Bangladesh army in league with Muslim settlers attacked the indigenous Buddhist people in Mahalchari. Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers set fire on more than 370 indigenous Buddhist houses. An indigenous Chakma man and an indigenous Chakma infant (8 months) were killed. More than 1000 indigenous Buddhist people were rendered homeless. Lemucharipara Buddhist Temple and Babupara Buddhist Temple were burnt down. Lord Buddha's images were demolished. Bangladesh army and Muslim settlers raped 10 indigenous Chakma women.
Bangladesh army desecrates a Buddhist temple in Rangamati
On 24 June 1989, Bangladesh army from Karikhyong Army Camp led by Major Shafat carried out a military operation against the indigenous Buddhist inhabitants of Kharikhyong in Rangamati. During the operation, Bangladesh army desecrated a Buddha Vihara and slaughtered a cow at the Vihara. Bangladesh army beat and tortured indigenous Buddhist people. Hangal Uday Buddha Vihara situated at Kharikhyong, 59 Banduk Bhanga Mouza, Rangamati. Bangladesh army broke the image of Lord Buddha. Bangladesh army destroyed properties of the temple.
